How to Apply for a Kenyan Passport

Applying for a Kenyan passport is very easy. All you need to do is log in to your e-citizen account and make an online application. The tough part begins when you have to go to the immigration office to submit the applications. Prepare to spend up to 6 hours in line unless you are one of the earliest birds.

The e-passport contains a chip that has the owner’s biometric data which prevent forgery and other unauthorized use.

Application Process

  1. Log in to your e-citizen account and click on the passport application form in the Department of Immigration Services section.
  2. After reading the instructions, fill in the application form. Proof-read the form to correct any mistakes.
  3. Submit the application, select the mode of payment and pay the fees.
  4. Print a copy of the application form and three invoices to take with you to the immigration office.

Documents Required

  1. Pre-filled passport application form.
  2. Three copies of invoice.
  3. Old passport and a copy of the last three pages.
  4. Original national ID and copy.
  5. Original birth certificate and copy.
  6. Three passport size photos, one of the photographs should be signed by the recommender.
  7. Certified recommender’s ID card copy or original ID card and copy.
  8. Certified parent’s national ID card copy or original ID card and copy. If deceased, carry death certificate.
  9. Consent letters for minors.
  10. For lost passports, carry a sworn affidavit and police abstract.
  11. For lost or mutilated passports, an explanation letter is required to explain the circumstances of the loss or mutilation.

Collection

After 5 – 15 working days from the date of submitting the application, the passport will be available for collection.
